    Hunting from gunboat waikato river

Anyone have info about rules surrounding shooting decoying ducks from a anchored gunboat between Cambridge and Hamilton since drift shooting is now banned?i know there are a couple of permanent stands along the river that are shot from ,looking to scout out a couple of spots that might hold birds pre season as it’s only 15mins to boat ramp from home I’m thinking it might be good for the od morning shoot.have emailed fish and game but no joy yet, obviously you would be establishing a safe firing zone away from any dwelling or cycle/walking track. Thanks

I THINK....the must be anchored/moored bit will be what sees you in right or wrong. your dingy/canoe is therefore no different to a floating barge.

Clause 4.7 in the second schedule states "No person may possess a firearm in or on an unmoored vessel except rowboat unless it is dismantled etc.."

So that would imply that yes you can so long as you only pull your shotty out of it's slip once you are tied up.

Or if it's a rowboat it seem no problem.

Clause 4.6 talks about no shooting from unmoored boats north of the boat ramp for the first 3 days and the second weekend.

You should be able to look the regs up on line.
