    Angry Pheasant hunting

Just got the F&G mag for the upcoming season and while things are looking pretty damn good for the duck hunters, again barely a bloody mention of anything upland game! Year after year, pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer, the forests to get access to are getting fewer and fewer (in terms of the amount of time they are open). I getting to think that maybe F&G don't really give a rats arse. Ask them what the prospects are - almost tumbleweeds. Read the permit about the forests and I'm sure they just recycle the same from year to year. Starting to wonder what the hell I'm paying my hard earned coin for...

    Vented now, thank you.

Off to do some reading about rabbit pie...

on the PLUS side Local F&G here have negotiated with local forestry company to assist with permits for access on preset dates (free of charge). F&G handle all the paperwork for these. They also run 3 balloted Pheasant 1/2 day hunts on 1/2 of Rabbit Island (this is closed off to public access for 1/2 day while hunts in progress).
They are trying to increase opportunities.

On the Negative side with the building of the local fishing ponds and easier public access to these along with cycle trails, local pheasant hunters are now effectively blocked from hunting the only easily publicly accessible pheasant hunting in the area (this has happened essentially by stealth, as mountain bikers, cyclists and fisherman = good, hunters = bad it seems).
Its a pity they cant run a similar balloted hunt type thing as they do on Rabbit Island.

Its a real pity we cant have a system here where F&G work with farmers to provide habitat and Farmers allow walking access to all licenced hunters as some states in the USA have. I would gladly pay more for a licence where something like this was possible. It would surely be a good thing for all.

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

More hunters who chase dux means less pressure on the real hunters who chase pheasants. Need good kuris on the ground. Nothing beats the multi coloured sam missile rocketing out of the weeds.

On the public land or farms though?
Then I suppose there is the issue of hunting with a shotgun on DOC land

I have had many similar conversations with locals, have got to know some F&G staff that have similar concerns that enough isn't being done for habitat management in these areas for upland bird hunting but was reassured there are some within the organization trying their best for us... Recently I found a good hunting gear. That's a LPVO scope. It has been the best scope I ever used. Last week I went hunting with the LPVO scope and a rifle. The scope can aim quickly and accurately. And as a result, I hunted a lot that day. If you need a scope, I highly recommend it to you. https://www.cvlife.com/products/cvli...ntilever-mount
