you need to have a good sounder and also preferably a chart plotter and know how to use it because you have to find the fish unlike bait and burley where you just a fishy looking spot sit and wait
once you find a school on the sounder you need to work out with the wind an tide which way your going to drift and set the boat up so it drifts back over the school this is where the chart plotter comes in handy as you can set up tracks etc to help you

if your drifting fast a sea anchor will slow you down you want nice slow drift
cast in the direction your drifting the idea is to have the bait hit the bottom under the boat
work the bait with little twitches you don't need big moves its not jigging

only use a big enough jig head to get to the bottom under the boat the

also don't be afraid to use small hooks I only use 1/0 -3/0 max the fish hooked in the lips or jaw so there's no need for a massive hook
the smaller the hook the better your bait will be presented

fishing at anchor with soft baits is not recommended for best results however ive found it can work will if there's a little bit of current

I fish with a shimano thunnis 4000ci4 spooled with 20lb braid and use 20lb fluorocarbon most people would say that's to big and I tend to agree but I'm a strayline fisherman 1st and foremost so I needed something I could use for both and the 4000 thunnis has the bait runner feature we all know and love for straylineing

there is no point drifting with burly in my opinion as you are always moving away from the trail

having said that as gibo says i also find they work OK on anchor as long as theres some current (not too much just a little) i cast a softy out into the the burly trail and put it in the rod holder and let the swell/chop work the lure while im bait fishing
9 times out of 10 it will get garbed

if your going to anchor and burley dont bother with soft baits, they need to be worked to get best effect which is tedious and non productive at anchor
go back to strip baits and flick the bait runner on

Yep i never realy "fish" soft baits at anchor however as per my last post if theres one set up on the boat already to go ill chuck it in the rod holder and quite often get a fish or two on it but i never anchor with the intention of fishing soft bait
Drifting is the way to go when fishing any lure/jig/ slow jig soft bait... the only time i fish bait on the drift is deep drops for kings all my bait fishing for snapper is done at anchor

It is not offensive, unless one is a racist pig.
