Thread: Does a spotting scope need a reticle to be useful for long range shooting?

Spotting deer with a x35 zoom spotting scope last weekend and the next day checking mates accuracy using a number of firearms on a home made range showed the value of a spotting scope.
I have no reticle and yet over the years have been OK at suggesting which way to adjust their scopes.
Took only x4 shots to get a zero, simply suggesting how many clicks up and right to get accurate and we nailed it first time.

Great question mate. Like most everyone else is saying. Any spotting scope is great to get eyes down range on a target. Unknown distance targets can get tricky and a scope with mil dots make for easy adjustments. Not necessary but it just depends on the shooter / spotter.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

You are lucky that they are in a purse. My missus has a firm grip on mine at all times even when she is on the other side of the world.
