It can cost a fortune but it's worth every penny. And even funnier is we spend more on it every year. Rather spend on this and get out hunting than sit around home with an x box or play station and piss the life away playing computer games.

And they probably spend just as much as us on games and shit.

    That's my thoughts anyway

Pretty much. Hope to get out huntin this week. Weather pending.

Can't wait to get the 45/70. Any tips on loads with trail boss or adi powders.
Maybe a pm would be easier if you have any tips that you would be willing to share

just added a sexy wee 12g sxs to my collection.admittedly most of my gear is second hand or budgetary to say the least but bugger it ,what can replace being out in the wild blue yonder huntin a duck or goose or two and realising what a bloody wonderful thing nature actually is.hunting mates too -generally as solid as a brick shithouse ,and you can sling it and take shit all day but still sit down with a smile at the end to share a yarn a feed &a drink.
my old dear though hasnt got it easy as i collect motor mowers &chainsaws as well....plus i hate seeing bloody stuff being dumped cause "its missing a bolt or weve got a new one." This is exactly what mancaves are for ,if its noisy ,fast ,sharp or deadly right we can fix it!
    long may we bloody live

If you want a nice mild load -
    starline case, magnum primer,35gr 2206H, 3mm felt wad, 405gn lead projectile = 1233fps

After much discussion and visits to other shops, Dave finally sold me a Howa M1500 with scope, suppressor and hard case excellent value at $1200

    And thats when it started.

Ammo, oh yes I will need some of that.

OK if I am going to go hunting I need some gear to wear, none that I have now will suit the purpose, so I shared the loved, bought some clothing from HB Marine and H&F

Then of course the boots, my work boats just didnt cut it so stumbled on Mountain Designs and got a pair of Mammuts on sale.
Thermals, couple of t-shirts and a pack. Gaiters.

The discovered after shooting at the range (thanks to Phoenix Pistol club for letting me shoot) that the gun was better than the scope so talked Dave Crafty into taking some more of my money and selling me a Bushnell XLT.

I have stopped counting the cost, (bought a Redfield spotting scope yesterday) just look at what I need and then find the best value either local (preferred) or online.
So no shooting isnt expensive, its downright exorbitant.

But its worth it to feel the recoil and smell the cordite. Priceless.
You obviously don't own a boat.

When mentioned I was going to buy a boat and old mate of my dads suggested the following

"dig hole in the back yard, throw in 1/2 the money you would have spent on a boat. Burn it" will still be cheaper than owning a boat he says

Cheaper and less painful. Some cars are much the same. Bottomless pits.

If you think hunting's expensive try pistol shooting, have just started out and the gear for that is just adding up

I guess at least with Pistol shooting there's always someone getting out of it and willing to sell all their gear for relatively cheap, and nothing really wears out
