Plus a large % who hold a license and wouldn't care much if they didn't, not a important issue in their lives. Know more than a few in this bracket, very rarely hunt or shoot.

Not happened yet, no point in "hand wringing" about it until it does.

We are definitely our own worst enemy, , apathy rules it seems.

These are the "good old days" better to make the most of them NOW

My old man reckoned it is the main thing that allowed the unscrupulous to get away with their shit here in NZ. Pretty selfish, actually.

One thing they have not factored in is that new Zealandera are the biggest Reloaders in the world per head of population. Many on here simply don’t buy ammo apart from shotshellls and .22 ammo.

They have not thought about that I bet.

and i bet that reloading will require a dealer license (or similar) under the new "much fairer" arms act

I think it’s more that the people who make the laws tend to be quite naive and just write a law that says “ammunition” and don’t realise that a tin of 2208 isn’t ammo so doesn’t get caught by the law.
When they changed the laws in the 90’s I personally went about 7 years on a 500 pack of .22 and a tin of 2208 for my 303 before they had the amnesty and gave me my new version of the licence they already granted me.

    That's interesting

Do you have any stats on that? DFS shooters in Norway fire about 30 million rounds a year and 99% of that 30 million are reloads. So there must be hundreds of tonnes of reloading components entering NZ annually.

Why isn't there a domestic producer?

I suspect that they will monitor who buys what ammo and cross check what guns they have registered.
They will do nothing for a while, and then just 'cherry pick' someone that will look good to the woke media and say "look at what good thing the big brother register is doing to help us catch somebody that was never a threat anyway"

My thoughts are this, we have more and more restrictions on the horizon and we have at least one "friend" within the govt right now, Nicole McKee. I'm sure that COFLO, NZDA etc are in communication with her, us hunters need to be contacting her and giving her ammunition to show that there's a LOT of voters out there that are not happy, we represent around 5% of the voting population, that's significant. The one thing I learned fighting legislation in the UK is use the friends you have on the inside, because they have the ear of whoever's at the top, with ACT now having the deputy prime ministers role covered and with ACT pro-actively pushing for better gun reforms, we need to let them know that our support won't be there if they don't look after our interests. Think what you like about the political machine but the only way to beat the system is to play the system at it's own game.....positive can do attitude is what's needed here, whining achieves nothing but our own demise

Sounds like wishful thinking. It might be that LFO's make up 5% of voters (Im not sure of that), but the acid test is what percentage of that 5% would use their voice or their vote to influence firearm legislation. The answer is SFA. That wont change. In fact I would guess that most LFO's wouldn't vote on a single issue anyway, 'cos they are ordinary people with many other things to worry about. Thats the reality. And it's why we should all belong to representative organisations like the NZDA to ensure we have a collective voice.

Have a read of this, out of the same UK so many of our cops are.

If you don't think there is a plan tucked away for installing this in NZ then I've got a oceanfront section in Taihape to sell you.
