Ruff can you elaborate on the greymist dog above? You mentioned he was slow maturing, then below that you say he was instinctive enough to allow him to take runners younger than you normally do?

    Yeah sorry munsey,
It's a rip off scheme, it's half the price of the flight from Europe.
Cheap one is for a puppy but the bulk of the costs is the vet requirements and customs......then 15%gst our end.
The actual cost is weight which is not much at all.....it's the extras that mount up.

+1 Shipping costs etc for dogs is interesting.
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

He was just slow maturing in general personality. Always leaping about and acting like a total clown. Was deadly serious as soon as scent hit his nose though. Last time I saw him he was 2/1/2 and if you didn;t know you'd be forgiven for thinking he was about 1.

Bill Taylor has his brother (You'll see it on the "Dog Squad" program at times) and he was the same, leaped so high as a pup, came down on one leg and snapped it.

It all the veterinarian stuff that hurts the card!!! and of course, now customs will charge you GST at the port of entry (you furnish them with a statement on what the dog would cost in this country)...eh?????...not that you mind, no, wrong, not that you mind gasping for air

I find it extraordinary the bloodlines in so many breeds in this country...considering our disappointing distance from the sources of so many of them...

If you judge the quality of a dog by the money made you are focusing on the wrong things.

No question, but the quality of stock (Pedigree) is a major influence on how easy or hard that training may be. When you start with really top quality stock, bred for generations solely for the purpose you have then the training is easier and far more successful. When helping people with their "problem dogs" I often see handlers really struggling because they might have picked the right breed from them, but chose one not well bred for the purpose they have. All dogs are trainable, some are much easier than others.

as your gsp ages it will slow down with you maybe
given the mutt ive got now who seems more inclined as a pigdog, im bloody missing red.
he wasnt the greatest but he had a good mouth loved heavy cover and handled 99 percent of the work i had for him.
i certainly missing walking in on a point and the heart racing flush of a quail covey

lab cross but it has poor socialisation not stock proof yet .
to hard mouthed and inexperienced for woundies and to focused on the dummy.
but real keen to engage with wild pigs
if thered been a gsp or gsp lab available id a gone for it rediculous prices excluded.
