Here's the list for people who don't want to hear Jim waffle on for 17minutes.

What the list really says is, despite having decades worth of a head start Hornady knows how to develop, market, and produce a good product.

6.5CM a 6.5PRC really have taken a huge hold in the market and are now often the easy button when it comes to cartridge choice. I think 6CM will eventually replace 243 ,but 270, 308, 3006 will always be popular.

Based on ammo sales, I'd say 270 is a solid 5th or 6th behind 223, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm08 and maybe 6.5 PRC here nowadays... And I know for a fact it's not because the 270 guys miss any less and have to buy ammo less often.

Bear in mind also that a lot of the yanks aren't allowed to hunt with 223 whereas here it's used for everything.

Im a fairly big fan of Jims channel Backfire. He makes a good vid and his knowledge base is really broad. Quite a few youtubers are really onto it but their vids are too deadpan.

Especially like his simple accuracy challenges that nobody seems to be able to pass....

The one that surprised me not to be on the list was 7x57. Its way more popular in the states than here from what I saw over there.

    I hunt Tahr with a .243......

I noticed people started to criticise him about same time as he challenged the collective ability to actually hit targets as claimed.

Which states dont allow 223 for hunting? I couldnt find anything other than a minimum of .24 for elk in some areas.

His shooting challenges are interesting and I like the concept. I don't really like anything else he makes or his style

Google says Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Washington, and West Virginia.

I would be curious to know what the geographical spread of the 800 responses looks like. And what a bell curve of respondents’ age looks like. I asked my cuz in Colorado what he thought of the survey results and he said he’d be surprised if the main chains like Cabelas sold one .270 Win for every ten 6.5 PRCs or twenty Creedmoors these days. Just doesn’t see .270s in new rifles or in chat on the forums he frequents.

I also doubt that .280AI is actually the 10th most commonly used cartridge since it's largely a custom proposition

    Greetings,
It is unfortunate that the US cartridge manufacturers feel the need to flood the market with cartridges that, most of which, do little more than reproduce the performance of existing. Many are declared obsolete almost before they hit the dealers shelves which leaves the few good ones struggling to survive.
