Now that I am a 270 nut (temporarily at least) I am reminded that it was once so popularvin NZ that the NZFS had 270 ammo made for its cullers . . .

Ive told this story before, but can't verify it, so take it for what its worth, but when I was about 20, My local gunshop showed and offered me a model 54 Winchester in 270 that they said was sent too NZ in 1924 for testing the new cartridge on our unlimited deer.
It was a beautiful gun and I was sorely tempted. But I just didn't have the spare money at the time. I regret it now.
If it was true, NZ might have had a part to play in the Americanisation.

Americanisation: Mel van Elteren defined this in a negative way, as "a process in which economic, technological, political, social, cultural and/or socio–psychological influences emanating from America or Americans impinge on values, norms, belief systems, mentalities, habits, rules, technologies, practices, institutions and behaviors of non-Americans"
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
Here you go. Might even be it...

Impinge being the important distinction. There are certainly a lot of areas where Americanisation might do that. But rifles and calibres I dont think so... Yes even the new ones. But how we choose to use those tools might be a negative. The presumption that buying a new rifle or cartridge can make you kill better further away, due too the marketing hype, for example.

Americanisation has always been a thing in the NZ hunting annals. And we were always 20 years behind the Americans.
Remember when we used to shake our heads in the 70's at the way they drove around in big pickups looking for easy deer.
Then we laughed at them for using magnums to try and shoot them at 400yds in the 90's.... then next up we guffawed at them for wearing cammo....
I guess those 20 years have caught us up.
And I seem to remember reading a hunting book that had a tale or two in it about an American that came over here way back when to become a Culler. From memory it was a huge culture shock for him ??
I found this old track marker in the middle of Te Urewera

No it’s most by numbers taken and the average no of tags per hunter is low with the exception of crop damage permits in the south. Whitetail tags are in the hundreds of thousands per state. Other game animals are in the tens of thousands. But yes in a few NW states and Alaska there are creatures that bite.

Maybe some of it is the kiwi-isation of American products that work for us too.

I dunno if its my conservative upbringing or time in the inf but i just cannot stand youtubers who promote stupid behaviour with firearms (like blowing up guns on purpose for views or shooting 50cal mystery loads). Backfire is a bit hammy, and maybe a bit limited in the eyes of target shooters. But i like that he isnt cavalier with the safety side.
