The M1 Archer I had a go with was a great little 1 cell torch. Plenty of throw and all the torch you need for around home or on the 22. I recommend it only if you don't like the dark
I've been waiting for the headtorch to emerge from its' design and tweaking phase. It sounds like it will be a "must have" for sure.
Good luck with the new venture Muddy![]()
Yep Archer a neat little light - will bring a heap in over next month or so.
I have made a note of the Maxtoch queries and requests - will process them as soon as I speak with Spanners to sort out site detail.
@mudgripsz I want a torch for the boat - for navigation/driving. Needs to be long range beam, prefer a USB charge type, not really fussed on size (but small is good). A mate drives a 47 footer with a lenser (can't remember which one, but it's a hand held small unit) at night, sort of after the same or better.
Any recommendations and price?
Please excuse spelling, as finger speed is sometimes behind brain spped........ Or maybe the other wayy.....
Beak - what sort of exact range, and do you need a wide flood beam or more focussed one? The new charger can operate as a USB plugin - or wall or car..
Thinking an M24 for you or possibly the small M1 Archer. M24 has alot more grunt but Archer small if you're after that.
Leo (Te Rei) - another even longer range design on the drawing board. Minimum one mile or 1609+ meters. Bit more like Lightforce handle style but alot smaller and lighter. When it comes to prototype stage you can have a play with that one too.. Wee while yet.
@mudgripz I think I need a M24.
How do I get one?

Beak - M24 and 2X are quite similar. After pondering I think go 2X for its extra range. Still just 400gms loaded - under a pound - so easy on the arm if carrying for hours. And 20% more output than M24 - good because you will be searching out across big expanses of water at times.
I'll have some 2Xs in country in a week or so plus batts etc. Will let you know as soon they arrive and I've spoken to Spanners.
Mud, what are the torches like with the red led,, realistically how far away would you pick up an animals eyes??
We tested the green and red LED variants of the Maxtoch 2X.
Green showed zero improvement at holding animals here though, I believe its good on hogs - open range wild pigs in the USA. Red too we found not worth while though we only tested it on bunnies. Max range for a red 2X is about 750m down to equivalent full moonlight on target. You might see eyes at 300-350 perhaps, but red /green Maxtochs use different Leds to the white XML2-U4 2X. Red/green have only about 350 lumen output whereas white has 1450. So red also not great for sweeping paddocks, not much flood, and not much hotspot.
We dropped them and only use the white Led lights - clear advantage with much greater output and range. Some guys may find red better on some animal species..
Who has stock of batteries for m24 now and any idea when the headlamp for spotlighting will be out?
Whats the battery life like when hunting? how long do they last?
When hunting think safety first
Am in the market for a new headlamp if you have one.
They are pretty good mate, ive never actually timed it but both the two torches I have usually run out of the first set batteries at a similar time.
We have done the same night heaps.
Start spotlighting at 7.30. Change to the second set of batteries 10.30/ 11. ish
Always home before the second set runs out
