Early in Jan I was asked if I had thought of a camp hatchet and as it happened I had done one about 35-40 years ago but I made it from and old saw blade and consequently it only weighed 10 oz but the design worked nicely for light kindling etc so I used that for the pattern of the one to be part of a camp set and making it from 5.3mm 1075 steel it weighs in at 1lb 3oz with the balance point at the 3rd hole from the acacia handle with a thickened pole of about 9/16 for tent pegging etc then mated it with the Byrd camp knife with its 7 inch x1/8 1075 blade and the field boning knife with a 4 3/4 inch 1075 blade and all being stone washed .
I can now present the Charles Byrd camp set.

Very cool looking knives, do you stabilise them yourself?
Or you can stay within 300 yards and keep life a lot simpler.

I do the for the woods sourced in NZ but all the exhibition grade exotics I buy in are done in either Lithuania for those ones or the US from my other supplier.

I have been working on a batch of tribute knives the last couple of weeks and they are away being engraved and should be back in two weeks. In the meantime Since then I finished this 6 inch K tip general purpose kitchen knife in NitroV with "spilled milk" acrylic scales.

Looks like the Acrylic scales would look good on various chef's knives etc.

This lot has been a joy and a drama to do. 10 Chamois Hunter tribute knives with some beautiful Tasmainian Blackwood handles over curve backed buffalo horn bolsters on the 1084 blades in edge stamped and initialed sheaths. I had originally had the blades laser engraved, with the forum logo on one side and names on the other but they made such a mess or the job with no two logo's in the same location and names running off the spine of the knife so it was near two days to hand sand the blades again to clean them up back to the 1000 grt finish. It is way more difficult to do this when the handles are on than with bare blades but I made a leather protected holder to hold the handles that is wedge tightened and it works well but was a real dissapointment to have to do so. Phillipa from McLeay Jewellers & Engravers in Invercargill did a stunning job of traditional engraving to get them all done for me. I wont show the other side as the names are on there are private to the persons concerned. Hard to show all the logo's at the one time as the light and camera angle changes the sharpness but in person it is clear, crisp and really exacting in execution.
