Great weekend away down okiwi with @stingray and the mini me.
Saturday was quite windy but we prepared and were out early for a dive Sunday morning.
Spot one was a bust with no crays seen but some good cod caught.
Off to spot 2 and Joe pulled out some bloody crackers. I flopped around in the shallows and managed to grab one smaller one.

My ancestors lived on that river..many died at river mouth too. One day I must go and say hello to them.

My contribution, I'm presently in Laos, far away from the sea.

Today's catch from the neighbour woman's fish pool, each about 500~800g

All promptly dispatched, covered in salt and BBQ'd - Luverly!

(the salt and scales form a crust, that when done, easily peels off the whole fish)

A 4.30 alarm meant we bet 30 percent of the local boats to the ramp.
A short queue to follow and away we went.
Sunrise saw us sitting on the 20 metre mark drowning our first burley without much action to encourage us, so we moved out a bit deeper and dropped anchor again.
An hour or two later saw us with a full bin of snaps and a few carrots, so we started for home planning to have a late lunch of smoked snapper wings.
Nearing the harbour entrance a large fin was moving on the water, a seal playing or a shark perhaps, nope a blimin sunfish, what a way to finish the trip.
I had no idea what it was until a video turned up on social media.

With blue cod off the menu in Pelorus until 11/1 might try to break my duck and try for a legal Kingfish this Xmas holidays.

Would appreciate any advice on what other have found to work best in the sound ie trolling vs jigging vs live baits, what conditions should I be looking for to find them ie tide coming in or out, current, mid channel or around points, reefs, pinnacles etc early morning or evenings etc.
    Any advice much appreciated thanks.
