Useing the firearms register

The main problem I have with the security of the resgister is that once it's leaked, it can't be recalled or stopped. What I mean is all it takes it for an internal or external breach of security and the whole lot is out in the open. Details such as addresses, names, and FAL numbers can't be easily changed by saying "Don't worry, we caught the offender, gave him/her an ankle bracelet".

We the leakee's can't easily change our address or what we have registered to us. Identity theft would be the best outcome in a situation that gives criminals access to all of our details and addresses. Who's going to step in when rural firearms owners start getting targeted by criminals intent on taking guns? The police wouldn't have time to respond, a fog cannon won't help, and god forbid you point as much as a pen at an intruder....

It just needs to be leaked once.

somewhere in this whole controversial issue i distinctly remember NZ police sayin g they had identified 12persons with gang affiliations who were register FALO's.If further action /investigation was undertaken on those 12 is unknown.

IMO it's only a matter of time. Watching the talk that Mike Mcilraith gave to the Auckland Antique Arms assoc I recall him saying there were only about 20 sworn police officers out of 500 odd staff at Te Tari Pukeko. So you've got roughly 480 unsworn staff, many of whom will be helpdesk staff earning pretty average dollars, with at least some access to highly valuable (to the wrong sort of people anyway) private information. Sooner or later one of them will get leaned on by a gang and crack. Of course that's not to say that a sworn police officer has never been caught doing this type of thing...

And that's the conundrum with licensing, just because you at that time hold a firearms licence it doesn't automatically make you fit and proper. Even the highest position holders in Police, Justice etc can make bad life choices.

The response I received from the authority is "answer yes to the detachable magazine question."

Had an email from the Firearms authority today, because I moved house I had to register. Today they asked about visiting to check my storage but at my old address that got checked last year while having the caravan verified.

Lucky you. I asked for caravan verification in April this year. Sent photos of my Jayco poptop. Local AO phoned me to say he understood the issue I was having re safe storage, would seek advice and get back to me asap. I’m still waiting.

It's probably already backed up on someone's usb stick. I'd start asking your insurance companies if your firearms are covered for theft.....

Doing a renew at the mo, bit concerning that safe details need to be disclosed , right down to ammo storage capacity

Clear amount of inconsistency - no interest in capacity of either guns or ammo - I only showed the second compartment for storage of ammo - no mention of capacity

I think a lot of these questions are coming from the inspectors themselves rather than scripted. Last renewal check I had he just looked at my safe and shook it, he didn't even look at the internal lockup. The only questions he asked were about how many firearms I had VS the storage capacity of the safe and would I be buying any more in the future.

I tried, apparently does not like any of my serial numbers.......

That’s not the part where you enter serial numbers. You need to enter a few details below that part then go back up and press the blue button to search for the type of firearm. Then select the relevant one, then you get the option of entering the serial number.

Ammo storage capacity is asked on your application now. Just gone through the renewal process. Was a better experience than I was expecting.

How do you answer that? I mean, rabbit season spring/summer is a lot higher 'number of rounds of ammo' than the start of duckshooting with a slab... And buying a couple of bricks of .22LR is a quite different beast to a couple of bricks of 7mm Rem Mag or .338LM! Just for something different lets go for a 12g rifled slug setup - now my headache is forming. Next one I can see coming on is the current thing asking people to buy steel safes (that aren't vented and don't comply with HSNO Act) for ammo storage.

well what a cluster f%%^&k could not get into site- real me would not work so had to do rifles over phone - they do not recognize martini action and dont have rolling block or drop block either what a f ^*&k fest

the lady I spoke to ( Indian I think ) was really really nice but sadly not experienced in firearms -the system would not recognize a BSA Martini action small bore - single shot yes lever action yes - she was going to discuss with her Supervisor - but now how the hell do I get into the site - will try again tomorrow lol - did not want to know Dads old 303 either a 1901 BSA long tom - Remingtons went straight thru -

I'd certainly recommend getting everything in writing and keeping a copy in the safe!

I've not read the previous 21 pages so apologies if this has been said multiple times before...

I have a Norinco 22 rebranded as an Outdoor Arms JW-15S.

Outdoor arms does not exist as a manufacturer in the list, and JW-15S does not exist as a model (JW-15 and JW-15A do).

Sigh.

Anyway, registered it as a Norinco JW-15 and emailed them to tell them the above.

(It crosses my mind that they make liars out of you, just to conform to their regs...)
