I read that too as I'm one of them due to circumstances beyond my control

I see the latest in the media too - interesting viewpoints from all commentators.

I'm not sure the justification of 'the Police want it' really validates the expenditure of that much public money - very hard to see where the cost benefit ratio figures to fully support the introduction and upkeep of the system will come from. If it's truly secure, functional without errors and the cost to the people forced to contribute their details is minimal then it (apart from hassle factor) won't cause any issues even if it does no benefit longterm. On the other hand, if it increase risk of diversion, consumes a huge amount of resources that could be better utilised elsewhere and doesn't reduce the amount of firearms being held unlawfully what is the actual point?
From that I see the gun hating Cahill using the aussie port Arthur rhetoric.
Bloody well know he wants it for future confiscations..I mean buybacks.
It beggars belief that he would have them put, at a minimum, 200 million into establishing the registry instead of putting it into better wages and conditions for frontline coppers.
Plus the mouthpiece pollies that have no idea
cahill -in the words on an old bloke i knew(alas now in nthe great maimai in the sky)he should have been shot into the po and kicked under the bloody bed.
Righto folks a valid point to think on, National have promised 300 more Front-line Officers from the existing Police Budget. The Firearms Register allocated monies covers that quite neatly and we all know it is only a matter of time before the Police HQ start diverting said funds to what they deem more urgent/pressing matters anyway as they have always done. There is also a very good reason Police Minister (Ginny) Andersen would not release the new Licencing Fees regime before the Election, that in itself tells LaFOs it is extremely bad news for them. Food for thought.
Well for starters Press reports haver it aussie police recruiters (NT/Queensland)has signed up at least 100of our present frontline to jobs in aussie theres33%of that projection gone already, and theres not guarantees how many of the r eamaining 66% willactually graduate or remain devoted to working in a fetid hell called NZ.
Ginny Andersen-shed have been better deployed building sundecks on submarines -useless wee beige keyboard tapper.
Just done mine. Super easy. Took somewhere between 30-45mins to do about 15 firearms. Only one wasn't on the list and it was a new Beretta BRX1 rifle. Even the 100year old or so Side by Side was on the list. So I rang them up and sorted in about 5 mins on the phone, super helpful.
Off topic. Mate has a Beretta BRX1. Very happy with it. Replaced a Maral which he was not happy with.
On Three News this evening - there are now 50,000 firearms registered. Well whoopdedoooo
Are you going back in and checking everything has been correctly entered, I believe theres a few that are not?
So out of interest barreled actions with no other bits are still a firearm to be registered?
I would've thought so.
I understand that the police don't really want them registered as it would certainly add a lot of dross to the system BUT according the legislation that is classed as a major firearm part and must be registered, so even a bare action with a serial number should be entered. So too bad, they created the system, when dealers have to register I am putting the lot in there.
Righto then. Thought that would be the case. A bit silly but that's how it works
The bare action thing would be a pain yeah?
Can't put a calibre on it
Had the pleasure of using the registry today
Any Blaser owners with multiple barrels are going to have a real hoot. Serial stamped barrels make a comprehensive registration scenario impossible. They suggested I put my own serial on the action (once I work out what the action is on an R8) by either gunsmith, engineers stamp or do it myself with a home engraving tool wtf
After this enjoyable phone call my session had timed out and I lost 45 mins of painful firearm entry
Enjoy
surly - Permanent Markings - Now - I got some good permanent markers here (as labelled), buy them at the local stationery store - and the writing sure as hell cant be removed off anhything when the kids get hold of them.......
I did it over the phone. Had trouble submitting them online.
I cant even imagine how much it cost to develop the online portal
I got through 40 firearms in registration on the phone today in exactly 1 hour.
So I think they are getting quicker.
I still had them stumped with 3 calibers they didn't have in the system.
The other stumbling block was a firearm with no known maker ! That was a hard concept to explain
The buyers market may slowly be diminishing then [emoji41]

So I have not been keeping up with the play here...
Do we have a govt yet and are they gonna arsehole this whole thing as promised?
maybe the ymight given time to show its too costly...thats my hope anyway.
anyone been given gip re security or number of firearms owned????
Went through the process over 2 phone calls since the portal no work work for me, bought a 308 that was too good to pass up.
Stumped them with a question however.
Question was. 2 of the guns in the safe are my brothers (now registered under my details) . We both are on the title of the house, share a safe. Only him and I have access to said safe. He is currently deployed in the defence force until December when he returns back to home.. Technically firearms are in my possession currently. Do I need to register them under my name? Answer was yes as expected. So I then said. If I buy a second safe, he has the key to it. I do not have access to it. I have my safe, same principle I only have access to it. His guns are not in my possession who's name do they need to go under? Explained not trying to be a smart ass. For me to ring them I have to leave work early and my brother well.. During their open hours it's impossible for him. We are more than happy to transfer ownership back n forth to follow what we need to as we are law abiding citizens but surely must be a more convenient way.
Got my answer back today, I have to have the guns in my name since when he's in the country he resides at his house only on the weekends and possession of the firearms under the same roof is for less than 30days... 'bit like a husband and wife situation where only one person needs to have them registered under the same roof'
Leads me to wonder, when it comes to firearms renewal time and the safe gets checked, what happens when my brother has access to all these guns he owns but doesn't have in his name..
Just my opinion but the rules seem centred around possession, not ownership. I’m assuming that, as long as he doesn’t have the firearms in his personal possession for more than thirty days, you are still the Overlord. He can use them as he has an FAL, and come renewal time, it’ll be security that’s checked, not firearms and they are irrelevant because they’re registered already in your name. He’ll just have to register if he’s purchases any subsequent items or can transfer possession, if and when he wants/needs to. Only when you have registered a firearm in your name, then there is implied ownership and you are tied legally to that item.
Sorry, probably haven’t conveyed that very well but just think motor vehicles. Same thing happens. While motor vehicle registration doesn’t imply ownership, there are legal ramifications on whomever has their name on that document. I’m sure there are other hooks I haven’t thought of.
The rules are still being made up as they go along and it’s a dog’s breakfast which ever way you look at it but these what if’s are a great mental exercise, if nothing else.
And that in a nutshell is the main issue with the registration thing. Man in the above situation buys a firearm from overseas, but it has to go under the person who has it 'in possession's' licence details for the principle of registration. Said owner (read: lawful owner but not registered possessor) can buy and sell as many firearms as he likes provided the 'possessor' plays nicely and is happy to transfer in and out while all this buying and selling by the lawful owner is going on. Now where this gets stuffed up is if something happens to the registered possessor while the lawful owner is out of the loop - the firearms basically go into limbo and what happens to them then - if the lawful owner (but not possessor) doesn't want them sold who takes possession in the interim? It's bloody murky. Similarly, what happens if you go overseas for a short trip that for whatever reason gets extended outside 30 days and you haven't transferred them out of your ownership? Or for that matter a stint working out of your home region? I've asked the question but no answer - this was a while back though. For it to be strictly correct do you have to have someone come in and uplift for you?
