Out with @stingray yesterday to chase some Gurnard and maybe some crays.
Weather was pretty average and the rod fishing wasn't amazing but we got some blue cod ,baby snapper and terakihi.
With the weather not that inviting for diving Joe made the wise decision to have a beer instead.
The longline got some great Gurnard and no shit fish at all despite Joe's mocking me for setting it.
Gurnard were fantastic size the biggest being 49.5 cm and most not much smaller than that!
    Good to get out.

Not one Shark or Cuda was caught by either of us surprisingly.

Yeah we went out last Saturday from marsden marina. We were the only boat there at 6am. Had a slight weather window . Out to the 50plus meter mark on the hen. Calm as then blew up big around 9am. Managed 10 fish biggest went 5kg all on softbaits apart from 1 on a kabura. Just interested in any other reports as im a newbie up that way.

Well ….shit ..what to say about today …hmmmm

A tough old day at the office ..

Got on the water , met a few lazy rollers over the barr , tide was milky green , headed down the coast , the water never cleaned up , drooped the insurance policy in and went up tide of it in case we burleyed up a shit ton of spikey rubbish fish ..

Well as it soaked we burleyed up zero fish ..in milky green water the sounder marked marks close to the bottom but the fishing was ..bugger it a bust

Sorry we got a small Kawahai and a carpet shark ,

Heaeded for some reef / structure snagged a good blue cod ,then a fat early season brim! Just as hope was upon us ..the tide finished and the bite went flat ..

I tried convince myself that the vis was worth a dive , but age over enthusiasm took a toll , being their dived shit vis with the girls holding berriers and the bucks due to go soft shell …

As VC said guess I’m not as hungry as I used to be ……and he’s right years ago I’d have being the tide hunting by braile …but now I’m just enjoy the average day as a blessing , just wetting a line in great company!

That said as we sat round the point a we bit out of the tide and current trying for one last fishing spot ..the vis cleared to a couple meters and the swell dropped …a life lesson or just shit luck pissing in your eye ..I’m really not sure ….we sat in the sun shared a beer , soaked baits and yarned ..

The summer will come with big snapper and screaming reels , but today was one for toil and appreciation of the company that I’m privileged to share , Thank you VC your one of life’s gentlemen!

So general report from the weekend , Golden Bay 30 meters 5 snaps ( 2 nice ones) spikies and couttas for a considerable amount of burley and bait.

Tasman Bay , horse Kawahai ( xxl) , gurnard , and southern sail fish..water temp is at 14.5 but with a big dose of fresh water that may shut down the bite.
