More kahawai than you could poke a stick at in the channels getting out from Monaco...instant hook up eveytime the lure went out.

Mate rang up if I want to go for a quick fish,
off we went (mussel farm - Kawakawa Bay) on Sunday AM.

It was nice on the water again, salt air on your face and talking sh#t with your mates (good time)...
and got rewarded with my 1st 70's for this year,
maybe just a pannie for you folks in the Northland

    Thanks, got lucky yesterday.
Don't think it was close to 20lb, 15lb max is my guess.

Out with VC at gentleman hours , out the front to find glassy conditions and fish boiling!
Binned a couple for tea just in case , out into the bay, burley and baits …and a lot of carpet sharks , then a few more , a token gurnard, then a couple of the dreaded spikey dogs , them some more gum boots!

Wind puffed, eased turned , then turned glass into whitecaps with a stiff northerly, pulled up the insurance policy..to be rewarded with two fat pannies.

Back to a safe harbour , out and home for a clean up!
So good to be back on the water!

Unexpected catch on Pilchards whilst chasing kahawai, full off little crabs. Might have to target them here now.

    Just over a meter long.

Had a few 3-4cm clear bug looking things in its belly too, looked like miniature Mortan Bay bugs.

Had a day on the Firth yesterday. Slow fishing but got a couple of good fish to make up for it.

    3 generations fish today.
Couple of hours was all that was needed.
Dad was the snapper slayer with each bigger than the last.
We released an 18pounder being only in 10m of water it should have no lasting ill effects.
A longline had a legal king, half a panni snapper and half a dozen kahawai.
The cold barstard wind dropped off and by home time(10am) it was a beautiful day.
