Thanks Cam, good day out on the water working the way though Southern sailfish and spikey dogs to get a few carrots and blue cod. @stingray The lures even worked on the carrots

    Sure beats working....

Blue Cod and green shit, ocean to plate in half a day, bit nicer than goat curry. Happy to be the sucker taking a day off work. Bloody good chewing.

Tired of chasing gurnard I tried something different, deployed long line deepish and burlyed up in Dads old terakihi spot....after an hour and a half we had one legal cod so bailed, went to recover long line....something realky heavy on it...was winding the boat to it but couldnt raise it before something gave.
More than half of the hooks gone and backbone cut in half...Im thinking big bronzy or some other shark.
Steamed out to 30m chart line and burlyed up in the hope of a early snapper tho the sun was high by now and I should have done that first.
Got some good gurnard and big kahawai and a fair few spiky dogs as well.

Called it quits and gave the aux a run on the way in and ran over a intersting ball of something on the sounder.

Perfect looking conditions out there Cam, bummer about the long-line.

Good tovget Mini-cam out and into it and can't complain with Kahawai and Gurnard.

Is it a bit early for bait balls?

Has to be some kind of bait but what I have no idea. Whitebait?....was dense enough mark that I lost bottom for a bit on HF so whatever it is there is lots of it.

It was probably the thousands of Gurnard that I scared away from the beach

Got dragged out to the Ridge here, fishing in ~130m. Virtually straight into them, about 2/3 snapper, 1/3 terras and one baby puka. Two hours of medium slop to get out there but far nicer on the way back.
